Morpheus Review
Ease of Use, Rated 3
This is where we feel Morpheus could use improvement. Although
adequate, several controls were poorly designed and cumbersome to work
with. In this version of Morpheus there is no way to resize the
Source and Target images and in Windows XP the images come into the
program 4 times too big, making them impossible to work with. This
is not a problem on the ‘Pro’ version of Morpheus, available for an
additional $20.00.
Features, Rated 3.5
Morpheus allows you to import a Source Image and a
Target Image to start your morph; when you’re done, you can save as a
Shockwave Flash, Animated GIF, AVI, JPEG, and other popular formats.
You can hide the Morpheus preview screen while you work, giving you more
space to work. Morpheus does not offer Real Time Playing which
means you must save your work to a file and then recall it before you can
view your morph edits. (For edit review ease, we feel every
morphing program should have Real Time Playing).
Morpheus gives you several options for control dots (the reference points
used by Morpheus to create a direct relationship between the Source Image
and the Target Image). These options allow you to choose
different control dot shapes and colors—handy when you’re keeping
track of dozens of control dots.
Although possible, linking two separate morphs together is more difficult
in Morpheus that the same task is in FantaMorph; Morpheus requires several
complicated steps to complete a multiple morph.
Ease of Installation and Setup, Rated 5
The installation and setup process is very fast and easy to use.
Help and Documentation, Rated 4
Morpheus has several types of help available,
including: Sample Morphs, a Tutorial, a Four-Step Instruction Guide and
FAQs. Although useful, help options would be more valuable if
they contained more detail.
Summary
Morpheus is a strong program with a lot of features and
a broad help base, but also comes with some unavoidable flaws, such as
picture importing problems and difficult controls—we feel FantaMorph is
a better product for the price.
